Q and A
I frequently receive questions regarding the young women program. Here are some of my answers. If you should find my answer does not match with your local leaders, please follow your local leaders. They know your circumstances and any special directives that you should follow.
In the past, when we have Homemaking meeting, there is no YW activity. We are looking for ways that other wards may have been able to have both organizations meet on the same night, in the same building, allowing as many yw leaders as possible to attend Homemaking meeting. (We have only about 10 girls who attend the YW activities). Thanks, Pat
The wards I have attended have homemaking on one night (Tuesday) while the young women meet every week on a different day (Wednesday). This works even when sharing a ward building. The youth from one ward meet while the other ward can schedule a homemaking meeting on that same day. That way every woman is able to come to homemaking without having a calling conflict. Every ward that I have heard of with homemaking on the same night as Mutual tells of frustrations on the part of yw leaders who would like to occasionalyl mingle with the sisters but believe that youth activities should maintain their regular schedule and not be "cancelled" because of homemaking. The youth really need regular contact with each other and it is also easier to remember that they have an activity every week rather than all weeks but the 2nd Tuesday or whatever the homemaking schedule is. That has been my experience. Good luck coming up with a solution.
